There are plenty around here in the evenings if the weather is warm & settled - but that hasn't happened since July. Been one of the worse summers I can remember, this year but not quite as bad as the dreadful 2012.

Seems to me there are two possible simple answers
1. Less insects
2. Better aerodynamics

I suppose the only way to settle that one is to find myself s 1958 Hillman Minx and start driving.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Thats a point, when was the last time you remember the front of your car (or crash helmet) being plastered with insects?

Well I think they're cleverer than that, I was rushing up to them at 40 - 50 mph and they were getting out of the way pretty sharpish.shane wrote: ↑Mon Oct 23, 2017 10:26 pm Did you know that the correct speed to approach a pheasant in the road is 18mph? Any faster and it’s tiny brain won’t register your presence fast enough to avoid it cracking your front bumper, but any slower and it will decide that you’re not enough of a threat to bother making the considerable effort of flying away and it’ll just run down the road in front of you.
(Or, could just be the sight of a bright orange noisy Ural bearing down on them with lights blazing scared the crap out of them.)

Yesterday, actually.
Well OK one insect.
But I've murdered a fair few over the summer. Have to keep washing them off.
