Hope it goes off OK.

Made some really nice progress with the big fane sealed cabs today, added a set of 4 internal braces that sit around the driver at 12 o'clock, 3, 6, and 9 o'clock.
I didn't make them holey braces as I was only going to lose about 3 litres so they are solid in order to provide other reflective surfaces to disrupt any standing waves in the box
They 120mm x 18mm x 325mm with the front edge cut at a steep angle towards the back to clear the driver and give an odd shape to try and randomise reflections in there.

I did it this way so that they would disrupt the standing waves inside the box and try to break the driver rear wave up when it reflects off the back panel. the panel resonances are also altered, making the cab more dead. Which was the original reason to do it until I thought about how to do it and what they could also do

I also changed the stuffing in the box from 200g of dacron type stuffing in the bottom of the box to 250g of wool stuffing. Just to compensate for the slight reduction of cab volume. I got another lenco on Tuesday and the box was filled with a kilo of wool fibre stuffing to protect it...... Brilliant stuff to get for nowt!

I also finally put the binding posts on instead of having a wire hanging out the back.

It has made a big difference, they are much more natural now, and oddly, the shouty tendency seems to have gone too...... Honestly I don't know why, unless the panel resonances and the reflected waves were coming back through the cone and exacerbating the rising treble response.

So I'm sat here now listening to zakhir hussein making music via Nigel g99, karmadon arm and dynavector dv20xx2, not quite believing it. I shall be a broken man when he takes it away   (but at least it's mine in some small way)

Didn't know they had it in them....

pictures?

has this wandered from the speaker thread?

not sure from the description whether it's anywhere near the original ideas being bandied around in June?, remember this?

I'm still ruminating on it, but the boss says I need to lose some stuff before I think about any more....these wimmins, they do make life trixy sometimes

not that ed, did this.

ImageBloody great big speaker scribble by anthony cresswell, on Flickr

nothing special, but it had a big effect. i think its scattering the rear wave off the bracing that has had the effect, the wool fill is only about 30g more than there was before, too much and the bass goes completely to pot, and the carpet on the rear wall was already there. the cab is less resonant than it was before so theres that to factor in, but its not less resonant by much. the panels are pretty big and the sides are relatively thin at 15mm (they were chucked together out of crap i had lying around) so they were always going to be pretty resonant even with bracing

Bloke on the Renault forums says he got a b0110cking from SWMBO 'cause he wanted to put the turbo off his car into the freezer, as an aid to bearings removal.

Why "Oh! No!" ?

I thought the new definition made a lot of sense and was reproducible instead of one lump of metal being "it".

Useless factoid of the day...

...within better than an 0.5% error, in a year there are 10,000,000 * pi seconds.

There. Isn't that pleasing to know.

Oh, and the corollary is that a nano-Century is very close to pi seconds...

Can't be. Assuming you live to 94 and have 3 meals a day, that's only about 103,000 opportunities to have seconds. And if those seconds are all pi, then that's reduced again to pretty much exactly 2^15 pi-sized chunks.
