There was just a comment I heard on the radio that I think puts it into perspective. Autobahn was released only 4 years after Let It Be. Its hard to remember how much of a step forward it was at the time.

S'funny, I was discussing that very topic with a guy 'at work' this morning. I mentioned my liking of Tangerine Dream - the conversation got onto how groundbreaking the early electronic music was. In the early/mid 1970's Phaedra was a pretty extreme album. Even Tomita's Snowflakes, Planets, Pictures, etc. which can sound a little twee now were really innovative in their time (The Holst estate tried to stop Tomita's Planets, which is ironic given that 'Classical' is the ultimate cover version music).
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Yep, I remember buying those early Tomita releases. Also remember Aqua being released which was recorded using a dummy head setup.

Oh yes, I had Aqua; twittering and bubbling with the jet plane flying overhead. The track “Panorphelia” had an oddly disturbing atmosphere if I remember rightly.
Sgt. Baker started talkin’ with a Bullhorn in his hand.

I saw Krafters in Victoria. Loved Autibahn , was that back in 72? Saw Tomita in glorious 4 channel at Hammersmith Odeon, never got to see Jean Michel Oxygene. But what an era of music. Florian was a great showroom dummy. Made me almost want to go to Dusseldorf.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.
