Nobody mentioned 'Memphis Tennessee' on the TV pieces about him - shame.
Massive talent and hell of a character.
There's a very funny bit in the biography of Mark E Smith ( The Fall ) . Their road manager in the mid 80's quit, saying to Mark that he was fed up with all the hassle he'd had to put up with dealing with Mark & the band. He said he was going to move on to something more meaningful, with real professionals - running a UK tour for Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry that was arriving in Manchester the next month. Mark burst out laughing and said "you've got to be joking - those guys are notorious ! ". He commented that when the plane landed in Manchester, Chuck Berry refused to come out of the plane until he was paid another £5000 !
