#1 Nick's New DAC at Audio World, Manchester 22-23rd March

Post by mainscablesrus »

Myself and Mr Gorham will be at the new hi-fi show in Manchester later this month, it's right next to manchester airport so local for us northerners. We would really like to see you all if you can make it. It's not a massive affair like Bristol, the hotel is reputed to have good sounding rooms if that can be believed.

It will be the MCRU room where Nick's new DAC will be demonstrated for the first time through a fully system connected to the MCRU music server, 24/96, 24/192 and DSD will be playing so please try to make it to the show. I realize most of you guys are DIY so I will be bringing plenty of wires at bargain prices for all audio talk members who attend.

Many thanks and looking forward to the next Owston immensely.

I might wander over there , I'm not too far away. Is Nick going to be there ?
Will you be able to put together a good system on which to hear the DAC ?

Weather forecast looks interesting .
Never mind - it's downhill from Halifax to Manchester airport :!:

I'm not sure I can toboggan all the way from North wales, though - the forecast gets more serious by the hour !
We shall see - they are well known for 'crying wolf' these days .

And very nice it was too . The DAC was very capable on 16 bit ( with a more convincing treble than I'm used to from CD ) but really took off with 24-bit and DSD material .
Dominic's excellent front-end ( Garrard 301 in slate, modified SME3012 & Koetsu Red ) was there for comparisons and variety , and was doing a great job through Nick's phono amp . I got chance to play some of the vinyl I'd brought , and had a late-afternoon special session after the punters had left to play some more records and do some cable comparisons.

..and I managed to get back without getting stuck in a snowdrift... but the last 4-5 miles were tricky once I got off the A55.

Nice to see Chris ( Stratmangler ) and his son too .

Eee, it were a Grand Day Out !

#12 Longdog Audio VDt1 DAC

Hi all,
As Nick is far too modest I have posted a few new images of the finished DAC he and I are selling, obviously we know none of you guys will buy one :D but I thought it may interest you to know it's finished and hopefully this will catapult Nick into the mainstream which is where he deserves to be. It goes without saying the DAC is bloody marvellous, we have spent a small fortune fine tuning the case and making sure it befits a product like this, we put RDC cones as feet and paid extra for the panels to be printed up to a better standard, all in all a serious contender in the up-market DAC arena.

Good effort !
Very smart, understated .
Nice quality RCA's on the back - I think I have some of those upstairs to fit to my phono , but needs a bit of router work first ...

If this doesn't get a 5-star review, there's something funny going on .
