While searching speaker stuff on LencoHeaven forum ( 15a thread ) I ended up sidetracked into tungar FC supplies, then someone mentioned they had scored a Hexaphase mercury rectifier.
I still don't know if that's what this is ( probably yes ) but tell me if this is not the coolest rectifier anyone could own ?
Here's one lurking in Belsize Park underground (military) museum :
It has a rather sinister resemblance to 'Tony Harrison' in the Mighty Boosh, if you ask me....

Saw one of those in the flesh (or glass) 25 years ago, it was the coolest thing. It was being used as well. The fitting shop in Chester still had the overhead crane from when the local supply was DC, so when they went to AC, the fitted the rectifier to power the crane motor.

There's summat similar to that in a Museum in Manchester, the one right down by the Canal network junction. IIRC it was this one -> http://msimanchester.org.uk/
My flabber was ghasted by the sight of it.

My flabber has never been so ghasted!
Yes dead cool.
Pretty sure someone posted a pic of one a few years ago.
