#1 211's Just couldn't sit on my buy it now finger

I haven't studied the 211 second hand market, but this is the price I was paying many years ago, so just had to pluck them out.

Anyway been thinking of returning to an old friend.

Always loved her silky delicate soft voice.

Or that I can't wait to feel her curves and hear her silky voice!

Have I got one of those obsessions?

It's quite a fun aspect of working in other people's homes, you get a reality check on how different we are. We being diy valve amp and loudspeaker etc enthusiasts.

We are a very small minority.

But there are houses out there that demonstrate to me someone living with nothing between the ears for solving problems thinking of solutions and adapting. Maybe they do all that at work. At home they appear to have no life.

Might as well go in the nick and live in a small cell with nothing to do as live in those houses with no interests evidenced.

Yes, you can watch those 'grand designs' programmes and at the end , they have something that looks like a half-empty furniture showroom ! Nothing of any interest in there - all that work for nothing ( in my books ! ) . When you meet someone who's really interesting, like an artist or a writer, their houses are packed full of stuff so you are almost falling over it - but you could spend a week in there looking at things and talking to them.

I was trying to think of a way to get some time off.

Then decision was made for me as a heavy boiler part tried to cut my finger off.

Took me a while to extracate my finger with the other hand.

Rest of day in A and E. Appointment to remove stitches next Friday. I thought, "result, week off, can start to build a 211 amp one handed."

Then plans thwarted by a phone call tonight

"Can you go to Wakefield and buddy a new starter?"

Fek Fek Fek

Mine haven't arrived yet, but doing the well known by students of marketing behaviour of researching a product after your purchase to ensure you made the right decision.

Found a wobbly pair of Chinese 211's that look just like the kind of crap I have owned and sold for next to nothing because they are so substandard compared to the real thing.

If he sells those at that price he'll have found the biggest idiot on eBay.
If I was buying at those sort of prices something that wasn't western production I would gamble on these. It's all a gamble until you have heard them for yourself. Most reviews of these modern production valves are coloured by vested interests. I know that the Svets are now also NOS, so you don't have to point out the bleedin obvious.

I don't know if Paul would remember, but when I auditioned GK-71 he first time at Owston he commented that it sounded rather like a 211. :D

I wonder what comments the new improved version would attract ? 8)

We seem to experience great sound from a great variety of valves single ended. Which amps seem to respond more to the sound of individual valves. I can hear a valve characteristic sound in an SE amplifier.

When I decide what to build I pick the characteristic sound which I want to hear at that point, whilst considering needs of size weight, supporting components, cost and so on.

In this particular case I found a specific power supply and thought which valve would it most suit.
