Avoid these things like the plague.
I've had a pair of these since 2007 but have never used them.
Curiosity got the better of me this lunch time, and I thought, why not give them a go. The fact that the 5687 sockets would have to be rewired was not going to stand in my way.
Jeez! they are horrible things. Where does one start?
Bright, forward, hard and thoroughly nasty sounding devices with an ability
to strip tooth enamel at fifty paces
They don't go with EL84s at all.
I'm about to reinstate the 5687s or E182CCs
Lawdy mama those 6463s are headed for the dustbin as soon as I have written this.
My head aches

Has anyone used the 6463 with success ?
Do they need grid stoppers ?
I believe Audionote use them on a preamp (or two) and their version of Ongaku so they can't be that bad, can they ?

They'll probably need grid-stoppers, but they're not especialy high transconductance. They are not particularly linear - not as good as a 5687 or a 6N6P .
I'd use a 1980's 6N6P if I wanted something of this sort of gain, current and low cost. The 6N6P can handle more current and is more linear, for only 150ma more filament current . Get a six-pack and choose the best matched-ones !

The curves look quite good.
I remember Peter Q showing me a huge amount which he had stockpiled and he had quite a glint in his eye when he talked about them. So you must have done something which they don't like.

Maybe they have some sort of synergy with the 6072 when you use them together ?

The preamp should be with me tomorrow so I'll see how it sounds as standard first.

Nice to see you've not been chewing your nails and have had a recent manicure. Any recommendations for masculine moisturiser?Dave the bass wrote:Ta dah! <Jazz Hands>DTB

Ta!
The best masculine moisturiser I've found so far is called 'Beer', I thoroughly recommend it. I use it a lot at weekends and stay well-moisturised.

Well done young Dave, that looks like the fella.
This masculine moisturiser, do you rub it on, or soak in a bath ?
