Has STC 4304CB Tube an American Western Electric equivalent?

If they glow, this is the place to be

#1 Has STC 4304CB Tube an American Western Electric equivalent?

Post by Paul Barker »

I have one of these, they are supposed to be a 801a arranged so they can handle more voltage and wattage.

Most Western electric Valves such as 300b 212 when made by STC (the UK branch of WE) are prefixed with a 4.

I am sure there must be a WE304CB

Langrex seem to have some British ones.

I am wanting to find another at reasonable price but Langrex price too much for me.

I've got one Paul. It was part of a pair but I dropped the other one and broke the filament, so the remaining one is of no use to me.

It's brand new and has only been fired up once to see the filament glowing.

You did me a favour with some 75C1 neon gas tubes a while back so shoot me a PM with your address and I'll send it to you for the cost of the postage.
Or you could send me a potato masher rectifier as a swap, and we can forget the postage. :)

I plugged it into my little 6em7 amp, which normally has a standard 5r4gy in it. Sounded better with a Potatoe Masher.

I think the clue is 'Chatham'. This is a euphemism for 'Dartford'. need I say more?!

One of those old chestnut stories that go and come around is that Peter Quortop bought up a million potato mashers so the implication was that they were somehow special so then the johnny come lately types (me included) bought some but phroaaaarnatchbollocksynonsensenothing to add there.

I am very fond of Shuaguang 274s, western electric's costing more than I spend on a week's food & wine bill.

Surprisingly good sounding rectifier, much better than stock.

More three dimentional and top end more open and light . Not light in the sense of insufficient, light in the sense of effortless.

Never would have thought this much difference could come from a component buffered from the output stage by a Black Gate three chokes and a shunt regulator. But yep, the rectifier remains as in touch with the speaker in an se amp as it ever has been,

This kind of puts me off solid state rectification once again. I am going backwards not forwards and finding stuff I used to know in my knower was right all along.

Are you referring to the one taped on?

It is waiting to be torn off completely but I am a woos, and keep it on with tape until it is less attached, sooner or later it will get knocked once too often and be history.

Toe nails are worse.

Wearing toe cap shoes all day is very bad for nails. And socks.

As this isn't embarrasing bodies we'll stop there with the photos. :D
