#1 New DIY tester...

Post by jack »

Just thought I should mention this - I've known Ronald Dekker for years through the nixie group I run (neonixie-l) - he's a very smart Philips engineer and his site is fascinating.

Edit: He's actually a professor at Delt University as well as a Philips researcher. Sorry, Ronald !

His new project should be of interest to most of us - have a look at :

http://dos4ever.com/tubetester/tubetester2.html - he is making up kits for this as well...

Great project, incredibly well documented...

Actually, spend a while and scan the whole site - loads of interesting stuff...

I'm intending to build a uTester V3 this autumn - should be good fun !

Cheers

Ronald estimates the boards will cost approximately 50 euros to build - a few sockets, wire & a box, and you could have a comprehensive digital tester for 100 quid.

Some of the design decisions for the V3 are really smart - the spec is excellent...

One issue we've been discussing is galvanic isolation - he states that he's tryiong to keep it simple - best approach is probably to use a bluetooth serial port or a galvanically isolated USB/RS232 adapter, which, coincidently, Elektor have as a project this month (arrived last Friday)...
