#1 5514 Power triode.

Post by pre65 »

Has anyone had any experiences with 5514 power triodes ?

I've seen it described as an "upgraded" 811a with carbon anode and 7.5v filament.

I wonder if Steve S has any in his "stash" ? :)

nothing like that phil, sounds a promising valve

found this
811 can only be run A2 in a SET amp as it has crazy-high mu of 160 . 5514 is a DHT but has mu of 6.5 according to the datasheet and 7.5V filament instead of the 6.3V filament of the 811 . 5514 is thoriated , the fils need to be run close to spec and the difference in mu leads me to believe 5514 and 811 are not at all compatible

Hi Steve, I also found that quote, but the guy was wrong.

Mu on 5514 is about 145.

They are both similar spec apart from the filament voltage.

There are some on e-bay.

Did you find any data on them? Sounds a lot like a 572b

I found quite a few posts from people wanting to use them as audio amplifier valves (tubes), but none that actually had.

The 811a I'm obtaining from Andrew are Chinese, but as the transformer I'm getting to work the Tentlab filament modules is 12v the amp could be adjusted to take these here 5514s.

Food for thought.

Ok, yes, closer to 811 than 572b
