Looking at 6N2P data sheets to note the wiring details there seems to be a confusion about pin 9

Some show it as a heater centre tap, and others as a shield.

As I have no continuity between pins 4/5 (heaters) and 9 I assume pin 9 must be for a shield on these particular valves ?

Yes, its different to an ECC83 in that way, pin 9 is supposed to be the shield rather than heaters.

Thanks Andrew, I thought that was the way it should be. :)

I connected all the pin 9's the star earth on my phono3 clone.
Don't know if it actually shielded the sections though.

Never got it to work properly :(

AFAIK ECC81, 82 & 83 & 99 are dual 6.3 - 12.6V heaters so use pin 9 for the 6.3V option, all other noval twin triodes must be assumed to use pin 9 for a screening plate between the triode sections

Unless it's an ECC84, which has different pin numbering and the screen is connected to grid #1, pin 2.
