#1 3D Print

Post by rowuk »

I bought a 3d printer as a Christmas gift to myself and have been busy making trumpet and cornett mouthpieces. Now my playback has its turn. I have printed a couple of 3Khz horns for my compression drivers. I will crossover somewhere above 5K. The left is tractrix and the right is spherical. They are printed in PETG.

Nice !
But a 3kHz horn is really short, isn't it !
I have done a few jobs, eg. some fins for a Yuichi horn, using 3D-printing.
I have a cosmetic cowl thing for ribbon tweeters just about to be made for the OB speakers- at work ( oops ! )
The mechanical designers are very good to me.

I rather like the idea of making something like an elliptical tractrix 1.5kHz horn using 3D print.
I have Radian Be 745's that need using for something ( goddammit ! )

What's your system concept now ?

Actually my concept has not changed for over 30 years: don't change anything unless you can describe what is wrong and why a change would fix it. I have tried for several years to integrate the magnetostat tweeters and have given up. They remain conspicuous. So I have a defined issue and the opportunity to approach a solution that is similar to what I am doing below 8khz.

My current system has 2 Fane Colossus 12" Neodymium woofers in a 2.5D configuration, a 400Hz elliptical midrange. First order crossovers around 800Hz. On the top are 2 Infinity EMIT HE per side from the IRS Beta. They have prenty of extension and low distortion, but just demand attention.

Interesting combo. So is it something like this one for the mids ?

I am using a Faital HF146. The horn is similar to the Fane but not baffle mounted. Everything is acoustically time aligned with low order crossovers.
