Out of interest what is the current device that needs protecting? What voltage and current is it working at?

That's for the original circuit with one current sink shared by the four 300Bs (and Steve's 25Hz filament version will have the same arrangement). For the DC version, as I have it implemented, there are four current sinks, one per 300B. People are also substituting TL783 devices for the original LM317s to good SQ affect.

Assuming it's a 300b cathode load I would have thought a depletion mosfet cascade or a c4s would be better and safe against voltage
