No worries Steve.

Oh bugger.

Mind you, there's a mod been supplied by Transcendent that I have to retrofit to this kit, when I have built and tested it. It involves Zeners. I haven't really looked yet, but I wonder if the mod is to address the issue.

No Steve, the zeneers are to protect the current sink devices.

Hmmmm
Not much I can do then except build the setup and hope it works with those valves. If those Sophias display the same problems as on the Transcendent forum, then there's no a lot I can do about it except tell him to get a set of alternative valves and sell on the Sophias. For me, the sheer expense of tubing up an eight valve, 300B OTL is frankly terrifying. Glad it's not mine. I built a complete pair of EL34 push pull monoblocks for less than it would cost for the valves for one of these. :|
How about an eight Elrog one. That would be interesting. :P

I was daunted by the cost but it turned out to be well worth it.

BTW, I use ElectroHarmonix Gold 300Bs in mine.

Ah well in that case they were not quite as expensive as my monoblocks.

Wouldn't it be worth trying an OTL circuit with very minor mods for the 6CB5A ( Thomas Mayer's site alerted me to these ) ?
They are about £8 each , quite similar to 300B, just they are indirect heated.

Interesting, I'll post a question on the Transcendent forum.

:drunken:

Well me and Meredith have just been enjoying the latest Game of Thrones series on the big Mets whilst sinking too much wine and whiskey, followed by what can only be described as a "dancing around drunkenly" session with the latest Southern Culture On The Skids LP on vinyl - engineered by a friend of Meredith's - Mark Williams - and judging by the sound on the LP he really knows what he's doing.

Steve... mate... we owe you a beer, you really know what you're doing with these things... (continues singing tunelessly along with the volume up too loud).... thiis is what hifi is for yeah?? :drunken:

Disclaimer - drunk in charge of a web browser. Sorry about that, I am sure I will pay for it in the morning.

Out of interest what is the current device that needs protecting? What voltage and current is it working at?
