These guys look interesting https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/ - they have quite a few flavours of single coil pickup to choose from.

Then there's all kinds of pickups from Fender over on a certain auction site.
The N3 ones from Fender sound good.

You could even try some of the Trevor Wilkinson ones - he's chewed the fat with a few of the guitar industry's pioneers on more than one occasion (talking Leo Fender and Seth Lover here), so despite the low price (compared to others) you get some decent sounding pickups.
Wilkinson stuff is made to spec in China, which explains the lower cost.

The Irongear pickups get good revues and are good value, I thought about giving them a try myself but I don't think it matters what I use at the level I play at.

thanks guys quite a lot to ponder there, I see fender custom do a Texas set, they look quite good and on ebay you can get them on a populated and wired scratchplate for 120 odd quid.

it's a bit of a minefield there's so many, the last ones I had experience of were Seymour Duncan vintage, my taste now is more toward blues,

another bit of advice, there's lots of people offering scalloped fingerboards,
are these any good? they look a bit extreme to me

My Tokai strat has according to the previous owner had Texas specials fitted and they are a hot pickup that sound great but I've had a look at them and can't find any markings to say what they are.

Im gradually getting a plan, start with fender Texas specials and a Warmoth neck or maybe a SRV neck if one comes up worth the money,

I'm really enjoying it

Nice looking body.
A Warmoth neck would go well with it.
If you get a Warmoth one have it drilled out for Fender/Schaller tuners and fit some of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SCHALLER-GOLD ... 1c2732bf6d - they really help with tuning stability.
A Callaham block fitted to a gold vintage bridge assembly would complete the hardware requirements nicely.

the guy I bought it off has included a new Fender tremolo unit that purports to be the correct SRV unit whether that means it's a vintage one I shall have to wait and see

as a matter of interest what's a callaham block?

A Callaham block is a cold rolled steel one like Fender used to use.
Fender rarely use cold rolled steel blocks any more.

This is a Japanese made strat that Guitar Emporium import - it has a rolled steel block.
It's also sexy in a non battered SRV lookalikey way

it does look a hell of a load better without the SRV logo on the scratchplate

OK I may have made a mistake but I've bought a Mighty Mite neck as it maybe some time before I can afford a Warmoth one to the spec I want

at least I can get it up and running quickly, mind you the neck doesn't look bad at all, and I can always get something back on ebay

Mighty Mite stuff is good.
You might find that you don't care to change it later on....
