Well delays in getting my touch postponed the use of the regulator module but now up and running. Just need to get time to have a good listen.

What was the outcome of this Squeezebox PSU as compared to the wall wart ?

You've had 4.5 years to make a decision.

One thing I will need, regardless of what PSU i get, is a 5.5mm x 2.5mm plug to fit the Squeezebox.

There are 100s on e-bay, but are there any preferred types ?

Why only adequate? It will do the job just as well and save you a fair bit.

You can pass 8A though the first connector, not the second. Not needed for a touch I guess, but they are a lot chunkier.

For £20 they probably feel & look reassuringly expensive but unnecessary for feeding power to a Touch. As an aside if I wanted to have a power handling of 8amp I think I'd go with a more mechanically sound type of connector.

Whatever works for you, Phill asked, I voiced my opinion.

Yes, thanks Nick for answering my question.

I think I will go for adequate as a first iteration.

Been thinking about this, I will answer Neal's post again. They are preferred, because I prefer using them. If there is a committee I need to run my opinions past before posting them can someone point me to it?

The only committee I know is the talking bollocks session at Owston.

Does that count ?

If I were making a PSU for retail sale then the "posh" connector would be de rigueur.

Yep, but I am worries that because I make things to sell, folk are now thinking I am suggesting costly things to make money. I didn't, and don't, I have used loads of the 60p ones and loads of the £20 ones, I prefer the £20 ones, the 60p ones work fine.

Ditto, I wouldn't be worried Nick, a lot of us have known you for a while now and your advice has helped a lot of people get off the starting blocks and get making 'stuff' themselves which has been much appreciated. Whether you make money out of summat you're good at doesn't matter IMO, the final choice to buy a recommended item lies with the person with the dosh available to buy an item, it's up to them in the end innit.

FWIW, We get through maybe 50-100 DC plugs like this in a year in the workshop. A lot battery powered hand Pipettes use this type of plug to charge the internal battery via an AC adaptor. They often get damaged in some way. We're tried a load of different designs and suppliers over the last 17 years but recently we've found a good cheapish Japanese made brand, I think the boss got 'em from either RS or Farnell. Still plastic but better quality than some that melt when you get them within 2 ft of an soldering iron bit!
