Many years ago I built an integrated SS amp that I thought was probably the best amp I ever made, then ruined it by adding on banks of switches for filters and loudness controls and mono-fying and speaker switching and channel swapping and other likewise gormlessness (been reading too many Hi-Fi mags), and it had that same kind of intermittent fault I could never trace. Finally tore it down in disgust, it was only then I found a dry joint on one of the many pushbutton switches, which of course was inaccessible until it was all dismantled.
