#1 E-choke help.

I have two E-choke kits from Mike H which I was going to assemble today.

But, I now realise they are a later version to the ones I had before (FETREG004A) and some of the components seem to be different. :?

Has anyone got a copy of the FETREG 004A instruction sheet (s) please ?

If it helps Mike remember, my pair have a 1002 surface mount resistor on the back of the PCB.

There are subsequent modifications, now 'FETREG004B'

R7 replaces fuse. Which is no good for sound quality I discovered so it has to go. R7 isolates the reg o/p from the following cap.

Consequently 'CF' is not used, connect your last cap to 'OUT' instead.

You won't be able to implement R6 at all easily, I think it's to prevent massive current surge through ZD2 if 'IN' is shorted to ground. So ignore R6 (and hope input is never shorted) :D

OK, R6 (surface mount) was already on the boards, so should I just remove it ?

In that case you've both got the modified boards then. OK super

I can't remember!!

DON'T try to take it off no

I'm just building up my last board, everything is on except the mosfet and heatsink. Wish me luck (as you wave me goodbye).

Is C1 still 10uf rather than the 1uf in the kit ? Does it matter ?

I've just thought, Has it got this wire on it like this?

If not it will never output anything.

Improves the ripple reduction, 1uF will work

NO WIRE on my two boards.

OK, so perhaps that's why my last effort had no output.

That might explain a lot

Just for reference this is the top of '4A/B' ...

Just to say that the last one I built up (with the wire ) worked fine.

The voltage drop was more than I was expecting, but otherwise no problems.
