I wander if anyone remembers a chap by the name of graham Nalty one time Solid state amp kits and cable designer i.e sonic link and black widow cables amps like the virtos pre/power and the one i have the Pcbs for is the Apex 45 watt class a Pre/Power
i thought some of you may have an interest in the Apex Amp MC/MM phono stage

Hi All
One-day I will get round too building this SS phono stage looking at the sch it uses double 317T voltage regs first on the psu and again on the phono board how would we bring this phono up-to date thinking long the lines of replacing the 317T on the phono board with a transistor CCS can anyone come up with a schematic and-parts list see here phono sch :) http://www.audio-talk.co.uk/phpBB2/download.php?id=220
And here,s the psu

Well thinking of stocking up on parts for this Phono Stage as I have had the PCBs for it for some time which well defines the idea of a back burner job so looking too order some better transistors than the standard version
TR 1/2/ 2SD786 low noise which are not available
TR 4/5/2SB737 low noise which are not available
All others are BC184C/BC547C
Looking for better spec low noise Transistors with same pin outs if possible anyone know there transistors well enough to recommend better

Wouldn't have thought you could go far wrong sticking to the BC54-- numbers. The pnp equivalents are BC4--- something I think.

For this MC/MM phono stage
Could I use the following
BC550C NPN TO92 CBE 45V 100mA Low Noise=4dB
BC560C PNP TO92 CBE 45V 100mA Low noise=4dB
And for the MC stage for TR1/2/4/5 low noise
2SA970 PNP TO92 ECB 120V 100mA 300mW
2SC2240 NPN TO92 ECB 120V 100mA 50MHz. NF = 0.5dB type @ 1kΩ, 100 μA

You could. Having never made one using them I have no idea for certain. Only one way to find out!

Hi All
Just found this Site for Cross Referencing Transistors and Diodes it seems to work well given my limited knowledge at subbing transistor types maybe some else would like to confirm this if it is consistent or not http://english.electronica-pt.com/db/cr ... ref=2sa720
