Hi Mike,

at least you understand this stuff - and can think of new ways to design something

I can only build from existing schems, "meccano" style :) , gleaning a little understanding as I go.....

more power to ya !

lol that's how we all started, it's all uphill from here on!

First got into it cos of a mate at school, we was in 6th form by then and like most students, i.e. skint, we like music (well duh) but no way can afford to buy gear from shops. So DIY was the only option left. Though he was a bit better off as his mother and elder brother ran a newsagents, he had Heathkit 'scopes! Had to solder 'em together himself mind.

However I still remember sitting him down with a board I'd got out of a radio or summat and asked him to identify what the mysterious shapes were on the board.

"This is a capacitor, this is a resistor" ...

How's the optical attenuator coming on Mike? Here's a link to mods carried out to the Trancendent GG preamp

Once I get straight I think I'll have a go at doing this to mine.

Well to be fair I was looking at it theoretically :D

In practice I'm a bit bothered what the LDR is like as an audio component.

If I was going to do something, think I'm more interested in a 128-steps, R-2R ladder variation (works like a DAC)

I think that's what I meant

All I can say is that practically everyone that's built one has been really taken with it.
