How about this for an idea? You get a bit of signal gain as well.

Cool. I like that :-)

So Mike, what would be a practical use for that ?

It's an idea I've been kicking around for a while, mentally speaking, basically pentode wired as triode BUT from the output of a CF so it's like negative feedback to screen. That way if CF output is a bit shortcoming due to loading, the gain increases to compensate.

Feasibly you might include the suppressor grid as well.

I haven't found a need yet! Nick might have a better idea :D

Ackshirley one idea might be for a pre-amp / line driver type of thing, that might've been what I was thinking about originally

So, could I put it on my GM-70 amp between the CV1285 (6N7) driver and the GM-70 ?

I have some EF86 (Pinnacle) in stock.

There you are! :D

Could do that, gain may not be much, about 30 - 40-ish

Short diversion back to the original subject :D

I have a few CA3046 chips about so here's a CA3046 version. Might actually have a go making this for the tone control module ~ not for the Transis-Tronics amp, but the other one, the 'stand-alone' one

Yes, though I would use it with a split rail supply, but thats no major hardship for a man of your resources :-)

If I knew how to work out a diagram I might put it on the "to do" list.

That's to make sure the GM70 grid is at earth potential?

Yes, though I would add a voltage devider on the front to supply the required DC bias to put -30v (or whatever the design needs) on the output.

Gotcha.

Only thing is it's a normally biased EF86 so don't think it will take that.

Unless you made the cathode high Voltage relative to the negative supply :?:
