400w into 4 ohms, 200w into 8 ohms. Loads of great reviews online. £700 delivered. Kits are priced around 575 Euros, and that is per channel for the module and power supply only.

Phew, that's a relief, someone's bought them :-)

Would be ideal driving the Supravox 285GMF bass helpers.

Bit of a waste though given the 285's sensitivity.

Pretty much why I've sold them, way overkill for the Bastanis.

I know, even the cheap ebay 3116 boards I use are way too much. The demon inside me keeps telling to build graphite GM70 amps for the 285s but the iron alone would probably cost £700.

Er, not quite sure why there are two posts, and all the text is a quote. Never mind.

Probably a stupid question but here goes ...

Why don't you run the GM70s you have down lower for the woofs as well?

I'm really quite keen to hear the difference between the 3116 and the ncores, or even the new boards that Bruno has developed.
I still really rate the 3116 and for the difference in price the ncores would have to be significantly better. Or, maybe due to diminishing returns I may not be in the demographic of ncore customers.

I've just had a memory surface....wasn't Peter Comeau interested in Ncores back in the day? I seem to remember there was talk of taking WAD in that direction.

Not at all stupid Stephen, it's an eminently sensible thing to do. And I used to do this with a series crossover with honking great air cored chokes and large caps. Until I tried running the bass drivers with separate amps negating the crossover (the 3116 have active low pass filters included). Separate amps directly coupled to the drivers made a significant improvement for me. I suspect that for me the ultimate is a separate amp with separate PS per speaker driver. It's not for everyone though.
