#1 Wanted: 6SN7 Tubes.

Post by JohnG »

I have two Electro Harmonix 6NS7EH Tubes on the 845's.
I am intrigued by the idea of rolling tubes, as I only require two 6SN7 Tubes, this would be a good place to start.
Any tubes out there that might be made available, that would offer a alternative SQ to the above tubes ?

I have a handful of nice ones like RCA or Brimar in a box upstairs - however , used, some probably good, some marginal or not balanced. I haven't really touched them since I had the WAD 2A3 amp years ago. I can only check filament resistance myself, let me know if you have any interest and I will check through them.

I tried a lot with used in my Rocky amp. Ended up using Kenrad VT-231 with 'black' glass (but can't believe the prices currently on e-bay).

I also tried I think some Russian 6H8C if I'm not mistaken. I didn't like them but they may suit.

I probably have a fair number of different ones if you want to PM me. Would be easy to try if you're close to Manchester.

May be worth watching these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/6sn7gt-ken-r ... Sw0c9bg8-u
TD-125/RB250/MC25FL & 'Snail' phono, NAS/SBT with CS4398 DAC, 41MP pre & MoFo Power, still messing with OBs.

I have quite a lot of both 6SN7 and 6SL7, including the nice red RCA base ones (called "rocket valves" I believe as they were used in nuclear missiles ? urban myth ?)

I'm quite happy to send a bunch to a fellow DIYer - try them and keep the ones you like, send the rest back. Pay postage and the ones you keep. PM me if interested.

I thought I replied to Rythmick's kind offer, looks like it did not show on the thread.
Thank you Rythmick for this offer, I will take you up on it when I chose a valve from the current trial valves.
It will be a little while till I require them, as I am not forcing this one, I'm prioritising enjoying the Amps, followed by little tweaks as and when.

Do you want to try Russian 6N8S? It's full analogue 6SN7.

I'm the laziest Tube roller to be found, my recent purchases are still boxed and not trialed.
It will be a deepest winter past time, to fill a few hours, when housebound.
I will consider other choices as I progress with the evaluations.
