Acker Bilk CD.

The track I've just listened to is very reminiscent of a recent jazz evening at my local church, particularly the playing style of the trombonist.

I laboured for years with the clarinet, I understand what it takes to play like those guys.
My music teacher was an old-school chain-smoking trad-jazz fan - he loved Artie Shaw. Tried for a year or two to get me to play the 'Jazz Clarinet Concerto' which was always beyond me, although I could do a few of the slower bits OK :!:

This was the recording I used - takes me back !

I hope you haven't given up. Playing music is very good for the brain.

Sadly .. what can I say ?
Last time I tried I could barely get notes out, and my lower lip hurt for several days. It's not a thing you can pick up occasionally and have fun from . I do still get it out of the box and oil the bore , every 3 or 4 years.

Meanwhile - what is about Tony McPhee ?
Chris - tell me about that thick cables Stevie Ray Vaughan sound he was getting back in 1970 ?

Saw him on Jools Holland the other week and thought he and his band were fantastic.

I had not been to any of this years Wednesday lunchtime recitals at Long Melford church till yesterday.

I saw the Rock Choir were due to perform, so I made my way to hear them. The choir was amassed from several local Rock Choirs and there must have been upwards of 80 performers.

The performance was amazing, the harmony was not up to barbershop heights, but very good none the less, and at times (several) my eyes were moist through the emotion they purveyed.
