Sitting out on the back porch in 24°C evening air, light dimming, 'Brilliant Corners' on the turntable and a big glass of Bordeaux.
Does it get any better ?
I do wonder though if Beefheart listened much to Monk. I know he was a fan of the blues guys like Howlin' Wolf, but he owes a lot to Monk - the same abstract thinking and dogged determination to follow through complex non-melodic ideas....

Love 'Forever Changes' . Not listened to it for a long while - still superb, dark lyrics, deceptively light style, the best depiction of the end of the hippy era ?

"Oh, the snot has caked against my pants
It has turned into crystal
There's a bluebird sitting on a branch
I guess I'll take my pistol
I've got it in my hand
Because he's on my land"

Tim Buckley 'Dream Letter - Live in London 1968'.

"I'd like to introduce Mr. Lee Underwood on lead guitar please"
"Mr. Danny Thompson on bass"

Track 11 has a featured guest singer that sounds the spit of Bob Marley - it turns out it's one of Bob's sons, Stephen Marley.

Aaaarrrrrgh! ^^^^^^ that picture. So many things are wrong!
An acoustic with a (visible) pick up.
A Bluesman on a push-bike.
A 'ladies' bike at that.
Sitting side saddle.
The alignment of the rear mudguard.
Out of focus at the bottom of the pic.
Leaning dangerously too.

You can put yer busking amp in the basket hence the pickup, the bike is a gender challenge and the soft focus is an art-i-fact.
Read the bike book mr bass, or at the very least read the intro/ synopsis of the book. Its as important as hhgttg and more relevant than zataomm.

I never actually finished reading that book, woe is me.
