#4172 BBC4 - Arthur Lee and Love

Post by IslandPink »

Heads Up :
BBC4 , 10pm -
Arthur Lee and Love 'Forever Changes' recreated, 2003, Glastonbury.
As I remember it from clips, the drumming is substandard, but the rest is great.

OMG :shock:
In the top ten (ever) albums for me and quite a few others.
Edit : Just remembered , on old tapes of the 'Perfumed Garden', John Peel is on record as saying he regarded this album as the best LP of 1968.

The live performance was actually great, I watched it all, wish I'd been there. He died about 3 years later, tragic.

Haven’t listened to this for years, and as usual I’m hearing little things I hadn’t noticed before. It’s a day off today so forgive me a little ramble.
Half way through Fakin’ It, a woman’s voice can be heard saying “good morning Mr Leich, have you had a busy day?”. Now, I’ve probably listened to this album a hundred times or so since 1967, but it’s never occurred to me before, what’s a nice English lass doing on an American folk album recorded in NYC? So I googled it and found an interesting life: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beverley_Martyn
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Prompted by Ant's mention of strange hotel, some great covers, beautifully performed. I love her version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah - would probably have been one of my Owston tracks. Released on the Rega Research label and available on vinyl if you can find a copy;

Calypso Rose - “Israel By Bus”
She made this record in 2018, when she was 78.
Never fails to get me skanking and grinning like an idiot. :D
