It's a major pieces of work. Has some of the best tracks they ever did.Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 12:51 pm (White Album)
It has become my favourite Beatles album. Maybe it's the disjointed way it all holds together....wonderful.
What struck me last time I listened to it, is how crafted all of the sounds are on there - no instrument sounds quite standard, everything is carefully chosen and integrated. Also the sound quality is excellent in places and only middling in other places, I suspect there were variable amounts of 'bouncing' of tracks given the limited tape machines.

I'm still picking up the local lingo, it takes a while...by my reckoning I won't have fully learned it by the time I have to clock out...but I know On ilkley moor off by heart now(I do believe I'll be corrected because it's probably west yorkshireeeze)

Yes, the white album is most definitely a major achievement!IslandPink wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 6:10 pmIt's a major pieces of work. Has some of the best tracks they ever did.Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Mon Sep 10, 2018 12:51 pm (White Album)

Now listening to The Isley Brothers, "3+3" Another milestone; this time from the world of R&B/Soul. The Fuzztone guitar on "That Lady" and "Summer Breeze" and the driving funk rhythms everywhere, make this a must have for any soulie worth their salt. Their take on the Doobie Bros "Listen to the Music" is pure funk madness; different to the original but better than just copying IYKWIM.

The Checkmates Ltd - "Proud Mary" 1969
The energy in those grooves courtesy of that gospel choir is awesome.
Producer , Phil Spector, threw everything at this session by the sounds of it.
Has to be the best ever R&B verion of this John Fogerty classic (IMHO anyway)
Now get me off the ceiling!

This has to be the perfect segue with the previous, to keep the floor going, when you're DJ' ing down at the pensioners' disco. Slight key change but otherwise spot on

Aye, it is
I did refer to the original CCR record as a classic. One of the first records I bought, aged 11, then Bad Moon Rising, and You made me so very happy by Blood Sweat and Tears.Cressy Snr wrote: ↑Fri Sep 14, 2018 4:40 pm

OTOH, I also bought Yellow River by Christie, and Montego Bay by Bobby Bloom but least said about them the better

It's hard to beat the opening track ( I put a spell on you ) from the first album. I was just thinking I should dig that out.
