Some controversy exists as to the role of Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia in the making of the album. His reputed presence on several tracks is denied by producer Rick Jarrard,[13] but he is credited on the RCA label copy[13] and received credits on the Flight Log compilation[14] and the Jefferson Airplane Loves You box set.[15] In his sleeve notes for Early Flight, a 1974 compilation album of previously unreleased material, manager Bill Thompson writes only that Garcia was "listed as 'spiritual advisor' on the album cover [and] played one of the guitars" on "In The Morning," a Kaukonen composition that was released on Early Flight and subsequently included on the 2003 reissue of Surrealistic Pillow. Garcia himself recalled in a mid-1967 interview that he played the high lead on "Today" in addition to playing guitar on two other songs ("Plastic Fantastic Lover" and "Comin' Back to Me") and rearranging "Somebody to Love." He also played on "J.P.P. McStep B. Blues" (included on Early Flight and the 2003 reissue) and may have played on "How Do You Feel." Kaukonen has opined that Garcia was essentially the producer who arranged the songs for the group. A comment by Garcia about the music being "as surrealistic as a pillow" also reportedly inspired the album title.[16][17]
The truth is probably lost in the haze of memory.

I was reminded, by myself as it happens, how spellbinding was the weaving of an ethereal tune...no, cut the crap Ed, the essence is in wooden ships.

it's all about the weaving

I also remembered there is a point one reaches in inebriation, just before you lose the ability to keep time, when it comes together like magic....those were the days.

Jackson C. Frank from LP ( should have bought :( ) onto a CD , from my old record dealer Geoff who's now in Australia.
One of the great singer-songwriter albums, I really want an LP of this now. Very rare unfortunately.
Great vocal presence. 'Yellow Walls' - wow , what a track.

In my job I get calls from about forty assorted members of the great unwashed everyday. Most are nice ordinary people and some are total unmitigated arseholes, but every now and then I get a complete diamond. I had a call from a totally laid back Jamaican guy today. He was a little confused about broadband issues but we sorted that out quickly enough and he mentioned that he was a musician. He has a very distinctive name so I googled him and found this. Love it.

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.
