Or...

Man with noisy supply line shouldn't trust either meter. Man needs to check specs of DVM then pursue DVM supplier possibly WRT to published RFI rejection stats.

Or...

Man live near a bleedin' big gurt mahoosive RF environment and needs to get out o' there quick before becoming very warm and eventually cooked from the inside!

Or ....

Man live near CB radio enthusiast?Radio Ham and needs a polite word.

Or...

Man just ignore and play groovy wooden music maker :)

What you need is a chemistry set and two different metals.

And then you need a way of connecting those two different metals to your meter probes without any other metal to metal connections...

Or you could use a 0.05% voltage reference

I'm getting confused, not to mention guilty about going OT....

but I thought Dave was talking about guitars, which I understand, and then Nick was talking about Vrefs, which would be ok if I knew how to calibrate the dmms and then there is Mark. I haven't got the foggiest notion of what Mark was talking about.

I'm now going to play a guitar, those that want to can talk about 13E1 SE-OTL...and while I play Im going to dream about being able to calibrate a dmm.

edit: just occurred to me...even if I knew how to calibrate a dmm the ref would only be good for DC readings.....what about all the ac and R readings?
now it's eating into my modal practise.....

further....

I couldn't order the Vref from Rs at the moment if iI wanted to because they think I'm a n'erdowell....I ordered some parts on 8th Jan and got the invoice on 11th jan, which I paid promptly.......so far so good.....on 30th Jan I got statement from RS saying account overdue...

so I spoke to RS accounts who said they had no idea what the problem was but that the cheque was ok and they had a photocopy of it...it was signed and dated correctly.....

I waited for Jan bank statement to come, which it did last Monday...it showed the cheque in question drawn by Rs on 15th Jan and then bounced on 16th Jan..There are much wonga in the account concerned ....mmmm

I went to the bank on Tuesday last week for an explanation. The girl contacted the business centre...they had no idea, there were no notes on the file...the girl then tried the clearing dept(supposed to be the holy grail of banking)....I was given a reference and told I would be contacted within 3 days....still waiting, meanwhile I can't imagine what RS think of me.....

watch this space...or not...depending on your interest.

The plug taps arrived yesterday so all the threads in the heatsinks have now been cut and the mounting studs inserted. I'll be able to make some solid progress now.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Today I;
  • started making up the umbilical cable to connect the tranformer chassis to the amp chassis; stopped when I realised I had bought heatshrink thats too small!
  • started wiring up the septal sockets
  • sorted out a switch arrangement for the selection of feedback (for 8 or 15 ohm speakers)
Sorry, I couldn't resist!
