Hang on!

Steve.... you've built an OTL..... and its not a radio transmitter or valve destroyer?! You've changed! :)

PS. looks awethumne, well done. I really really like the OTL's I've heard so far.

Scary isn't it?

Must be the meditation practice I've been doing daily for the last two months. Very Zen. :flower:

Seem to be a very reliable amp, run the telly through mine so it’s used pretty much every night. Never put a foot wrong in a couple of years’ use.

Excellent Steve. I kind of celebrated for you this evening by listening to some Dusty Springfield!

Bruce said the front panel change is due to China vs Trump tariffs so he now make them in house.

Any comments on the sound of the amp?

Beautiful build!

It sounds natural, with a voices in the room quality, I haven't experienced in my own system since hearing the 300B SE OTL I built for our Ant's client. The Son of Beast push pull OTL owned by Dave (Thermionic Idler) also has this quality, so I'm assuming it is something peculiar to OTLs in general, because I haven't had this in the room quality, to this standard from anything else, valve or solid state.

I've been having a ball with my Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jnr, Matt Monro, Van Morrison, Randy Crawford, Eva Cassidy, Eliane Elias, Joni Mitchell, Mario Biondi, Scott walker, Elvis and early Cliff Richard. The Mini-Beast does produce more than its fair share of head-shaking moments.

Basses sound natural and realistically textured, and well judged, being neither too dry or too loose, and the LF itself goes very deep, which is fun with bass synths. I didn't think my sealed boxes went that low.

Brass and woodwind is full bodied and natural, and piano sounds like piano. Electric guitar, either jazzily warm or crunchy, fuzztone rock also does the biz.

The soundstage is proper wall to wall speaker vanishing stuff, and front to back although constrained by my back to wall speaker placement is excellent, as is the impression of proper height.

It works beautifully with my big Fane full range drivers. They are a superb match; probably due to simple crossoverless nature of the speakers. Oh for a 15 ohm version of the Fane 12-250TC

Only fly in the ointment is the nearly 300W power consumption. The thing sounds fantastic, so much so that I might consider one, but I would have to limit my listening to keep the leccy bill down. But........maybe.........no.......stop being silly!

But then you would be in the market for the 300B SE-OTL, or maybe even the 6C33C build that Wolfgang took the lead on!

Very nice & neat indeed !

I worked out that 1W / year is just over 1 quid

So to run this 24/7 would cost around GBP 310 (but would cut down on the heating somewatt)

So that's about 3.5 pence per hour, or 28p for 8 hours use.

Not a lot really. :)

Steve, I was wanting to send you a PM but you seem to have disabled your PM facility.

It's back on now.
A leftover from all the nastiness of a few months ago. I got inundated with messages from knobheads, and people who I would have thought would have known better.

Hopefully it'll stay quiet now.

You could factor in the cost of the valves as well as the 'leccy but who cares if it sounds good?
