#1 Signal Relays
I was hoping for a recommendation or specification I should look at for small signal relays.
I'm wanting to reconfigure 4 coils on the secondary of a lundahl line out transformer to get 18:1, 9:1 and 4.5:1; that needs a 6 pole 3 way switch which isn't affordable but another option is a cheap 1 pole 3 way, a diode matrix and 3 DPDT relays.
Are there any recommendations for such relays?
Or what should I look for as far as contacts go?
There's such a bewildering choice, I'd like information to whittle the choice down to something meaningful.
Thanks,
Stephen

If they're used in the signal path of the Longdog DAC, then I could recommend those without reservation.

Yep, I use one as the mute relay.IslandPink wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:44 pm If they're used in the signal path of the Longdog DAC, then I could recommend those without reservation.

Do you stick signal through these relays as well?Nick wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 8:07 pmYep, I use one as the mute relay.IslandPink wrote: ↑Wed Jan 31, 2018 6:44 pm If they're used in the signal path of the Longdog DAC, then I could recommend those without reservation.

I have a dual input phono here that has them at the front.

Pay attention to current rating of contacts, if going to be used to switch speaker current. Just a thought.
Years ago I had a Pioneer amp that had a speaker protection circuit that used a relay to disconnect, this would play up sometimes with dirty contacts, resulting in poor or no output, it got to the stage that I left its plastic cover off permanently so I could then stick a contact cleaning strip into it without too much disassembly. A bit of a PITA in other words.

The AMB preamp I built recently uses telecoms grade Panasonic AGN2104H miniature latching DPDT relays for input switching, and in the ladder attenuator. These are latching relays and are very compact, possibly too compact if you're hard-wiring though.

Pickering get a good report.
If you use reed relays then watch out for a) shielding and b) one of the chaps at work mentioned the coil can look like a 1:n turn transformer and pick up noise.

I used axicom IM23s in a digital preamp I was playing with a few years back. I'm not sure if they're still on the pace though, but I had no complaints at the time and they were good value.
I had to shrink the photo so the quality is not the best, but they're about 12mm x 6mm
