OK so I'm now in the process of ensuring everything fits together properly.

The base panel with rear sockets fitted (no I didn't do a very neat job of sanding off the paint!):

Front panel and components fitted:

Verifying that the 16x2 display board fits as designed (and is not upside-down):

View from the front with lid on, complete with fingerprints (photographing black gear is really quite tricky)

I wanted to see how it would look in the rack under the Garrard:

No further progress the last few days - mainly cos Meredith and I have been tidying up the office / workspace where I'm going to be constructing these things. The previous posted pics have been cropped like hell to cut out the absolute tip in the background.

Anyway, after three days we can now move about without knocking half a dozen things over and here is Thermionic Idler's happy place:

The two desk surfaces you can see are actually old excess-to-requirements conference room tables that the company I worked for at the time (2015) were going to throw away. I can't remember exactly what I got them for but it was something like 20 - 30 quid donated to a good cause. They weigh a ton, seriously heavyweight metal frames underneath. I don't know what the top layer is made of but it's very, very strong and perfectly flat - I clamped the preamp panels to it before bending them.

Edit: Meredith just told me that acetone doesn't damage the surface, either. Whatever it's made from is very heavy duty.

The magnifier, I bought in 2003, when I build my first amplifier, a WAD 2A3 SE.

Tell meredith to desist in removing her nail polish at the superduper wizzo amplifier building station! :D

Haha. Actually nail polish remover comes in very handy at times, and it's cheaper than buying a jar of acetone.

If you buy acetone on eBay in a dispensing bottle, it's really very cheap...

e.g. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250ml-Acetone ... 1e651eb73d

Nail varnish remover isn't always acetone, and it's generally diluted anyway.

Lots of useful chemicals on eBay - I buy Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA) and other stuff this way too.
