I need to flash an updated hex file to the firmware controller IC on my Buffalo 3SE DAC but I don't have the means, can anyone help me out?

There are many ways to do this depending on what controller and connection is in use.

I don't believe I can flash it in situ so was imaging there would be a USB mechanism but there seem to be lots of variations as you say.

If its a ATTiny85 then it will need to be SPI programmed. Is the chip in a socket, or is there a 6 pin header on the board?

And a AVR Dragon, both will witha bit of wiring to a 8 pin socket probably flash the chip.
