Bit of progress with metalwork - slow going as I only have hand tools and drill press, but looking pretty good.

The ribbon motor assembly is held in place by foam strips buttressing against the mic body - was a nice tight test fit.

Excuse the Heath-Robinson end plug ( wood ) as I haven't yet found a neat metalwork solution for end stop/insert for the xlr jack. Also xlr should be male but I only have a spare female at moment.

Decent sound test tomorrow when I have some more time to finish off this prototype. Learning lots that will help with the second mic.

No Valves - But it will be connected to some very soon !!!!!

Well...had a rush of blood and decided to try a very quick audio test with a geetar amp...
forgive the impromptu noodling - it was a rush !!!

I'm learning something about Ribbon mics - they have quite low output but are very sensitive....if that makes sense.
Also they tend to smooth off the highs in a nice warm kinda way ( at least this one does - maybe its just not made as well as it could be ! )

Anyway, sounds not too bad for first attempt and without the right 2.5 micron foil ( this one uses artists silver leaf for the ribbon which is super thin 0.6 microns or so i think )

Main thing......The Bugger works !

Rgds all.

Wow, that sounds lovely. You must be very happy with your efforts.

Very impressed.

I've a big pile of exams coming up until early February, but after that's good with me. Could bring the Behringer monitors or something if you'd like something to listen to.
