That's right is is for the version with gain, but by changing some components could be made as a CF version with a bit of effort.

I'll see how it fares after the work in progress.

So far, i've removed the 300R resistors from the tag board and put in wire links. The 300R are now hard up to the base pins.

Also, the 0.1uf (100nf) input caps have been fitted.

Just stopped for a tea break, then next job is to tidy up the ground wires, and sort out the hum.

I think 811a is where most of the hum is. :(

Anyway, with the ground wires fully sorted (?) and 0.1uf (100nf) input cap I think I'm getting some of Davids "magic". :)

After lunch (caviar blinis and champers today ) I hope to get the 833a combo in on the act.

For me, with my amps the ACF pre (as I built it) is just not as likeable as my 26 pre.

It's difficult to discern the exact differences, but 26 is just that bit "warmer" and a tad more "smooth".

That may well mean that ACF is more "accurate", and with sensitive amps it is still very good.

I was going to have an Elephant sarnie, but I'd run out of bread.

Is the circuit for your 26 pre on the site somewhere?
