Just sketching out a project that will be using some of these regulators; just obtaining the boards from Andrew - many thanks Andrew!

On the Rod Coleman site;

his documentation says;

I was planning to use a small toroid for my supplies but wonder whether this info is relevant to Andrew's boards too? How do you guys see it?

Ta muchly

There's no noise using a toroid on my own 300B, there's FFT on here somewhere showing noise for the reg; its all documented for peer review.

Sorry, Andrew, I hope you didn't read my post as questioning your solution, if I came across like that it is entirely down to my own ignorance of these matters. I know you execute excellent projects that deliver the goods and was just seeking a steer on the best type of transformer for my amp build should I take it forward.

No apology needed, I think I should have just said "a toroid should be fine" and I wasn't able to measure anything that would have made me recommend a different style of transformer.

Just putting eight of these boards together; I can think of more interesting ways of spending a Saturday!

You certainly know how to have a good time Ray. :)

Phew, all done bar the heatsink mounted parts (mica insulators not in the box, out of stock at Farnell!).

Not the easiest boards to solder with delicate parts with pads on large pours.

Transformers and missing parts should be with me next week so should be testing them all soon.

Thanks Andrew. You know all about the project I'll be using these in but I'll not say anything further until the main man is ready to go public. :wink:

On the PCBs, it was quite tricky soldering the TO92 and the small electrolytics because the pours running up to the small pads acts as a very good heatsink; I was using a small tip to get onto the small pads but because of the heatsinking affect I had to use the iron for longer on the joints than I would want. I used a quite large tip for the rectifier diodes and big caps. Something for the next project?

So, I can reveal why I was building eight of Andrew's DHT supplies;

I'll add something about my build in a separate thread here once it gets properly underway.

I've got most of the parts for my OTL 300B build and have started assembly; one amp on the bench with four of Andrew's supplies hooked up and under test;

Even I managed to get them all working first time.

Excellent project Andrew, thanks ever so.

Superb !
Did those resistors get a bit hot ?

They did indeed! They're 3R9 10W reuse jobbies though so they'll be fine for this purpose.

Winters on the way so the amp will just in time for some nice cosy dark nights.
