now veneered and sporting some rubber doorstops for feet

ImageBalanced psu case veneered by anthony cresswell, on Flickr

only veneer i had left that there was enough of to do the 4 sides was a remnant of the African walnut that Ali had on his TT. I might be able to join the last scraps of it together for the top. will see though

Only reason it got done today was that SWMBO went and got in the bath so i made a mess doing the veneering in the dining room and had time to clear it up before she came back downstairs :D

She did ask when she did come back downstairs,

" why have you done that when its going in the cupboard where you cant see it anyway?"

Good question......

My answer was "because its got to be done properly"

Her answer was then, "but who cares what it looks like?"

I didnt have an answer for that.......
She dont get it.....

Oooo, Roberts Radio's sound nice"

Indeed they do. The R66 from 1957 is one of my favourite sets :)

all wired up. There is an sl32 1r30 thermistor on the primary mow although you cant see it.

ImageBalanced psu wired by anthony cresswell, on Flickr

also but some 4" nitrile o rings above and below the transformer to isolate it from the case. should be no audible buzz now. Hopefully.
Haven't tested it yet, hopefully the thermistor should stop it popping the breaker. still needs a top though

You should listen to it with and without the thermistor, you will be surprised. You don't need it, same as you don't need the trip, that is why you have a modern consumer unit - belts and braces, and it interferes with the sonic benefit the same as the thermistor.

Ive added the thermistor just because I always turn everything off at the end of the night. it'd be a pain in the arse to reset the rcd every time I switched it on :D

All up and running now and it doesnt pop the rcd on switch on now. Which is good.

Interesting, plugging the beresford dac in results in nothing it wont switch on. Plug it back into a normal socket and its fine
:|

So the amp, phono stage and Tt are plugged in. Odd.

It will retain charge overnight, probably for a few days.

Hopefully the dual RCB is on the secondary which will catch a fault that the consumer unit wont see.

Residual magnetisation in the core maybe, depends on where in the cycle it was last turned off, but charge? cant see how, its not a capacitor or battery, or for that matter a superconducting coil.

the residual magnetism will affect the inrush on next turn on, but calling it charge is wrong.

The dual RCB is on the secondary, its output is wired to the sockets feeding the equipment.

Yep the double pole rcb is in the secondary. Its exactly as it was on the board apart from the addition of the thermistor.
And the box of course

I call it in rush charge, always have done, if it is held in magnetism or in voltage it makes no difference, they do the same thing on switch on. I have deliberately created every fault condition I could think of when testing the NVA BMU because so many people were being silly arses about it. And EVERY fault condition tripped my consumer unit.

Touch one of the secondary connections while holding a water pipe. Afaik consumer units don't measure earth current directly.
