Actually, one LP I like quite a lot is Val sings country.

For some strange reason he's wearing a red shirt.
Ask Dave about my Triumph pullover.

The Clarity cap 0.68uf has now been installed in place of the Russian 4uf. It was a bit more complicated than just soldering them in but not too much trouble.
Can't say I noticed an instantaneous difference but I'll see how they progress during the day.

Now, come on young Mr Bass,
what's wrong with a bit of colour ?
The colours are from the Triumph model range the year the sweater was made.

Just to mention 2a3 preamps again
Just replaced the pair of 2a3's with a single 6080, 1k9 in its cathode everything else the same. Its really good. And silent.

That's great.
Somewhere or other I have an odd pair of 6AS7GA , no idea if they work, but one might.
I thought 6080 and 6AS7ga were much the same but data sheets don't list them as alternatives.
Some e-bay sellers give both numbers.
EDIT. I found a GE data sheet and they are preferred substitutes.

I had actually made a start on the new pre, but I have stopped for a while to think about this new development.
I have checked my resistor stock and the nearest I've got is two 5W 1K8 Kiwame. Power wise it's just under double dissipation.
At 35ma that's about another 3v on the cathode.

Thinking of practical things.
1) Can my 6.3v AC supply do another 2.5A ? Total would be 3.4A, so probably.
2) The 6.3v AC supply has raised potential, will that matter ? The data sheet for 6AS7ga says the max difference is 300v, so that should be OK as well.

I had one of those once. It was superb.
I then converted it to use a 6336A.
That was even better.
I called it "A very Silly Preamp"

Ahh, but you didnt use el84's as anode loads, just as well you didnt. otherwise I would have to sue you for stealing my intellectual property. What do you mean you did it before? What has that got to do with it?
