Most of us wouldn't say that ;). I see your point about the 10Y/801A without a CF now though.

Personally I think the problems of using a 801A driver might defeat any advantages. May as well go with 1Kv 100ma and stay in A1. You mean the HT problems, or something else? If you were to want A2 Well, I guess A2 has the advantage of higher power output for lower HT. So it comes down to how much ...

So for A2, something like 425V 100mA 5k? That wouldn't leave a lot of HT headroom for a 10Y/801A driver though - perhaps have to choke load it? And I remember the glowing anodes well :D.

Just seen Nick's last post - the curves on Nick's link look quite different from the one attached...

If you have a driver that can sink current you can take them much further. Like a 10Y/801A? I wonder what a thoriated driver might sound like with a thoriated output valve? I have some 5k OPTs but they're only good for 100mA. At 600V there'd be quite a bit of swing, but the curves look far from lin...

Talking of A2 drivers, I'm thinking about options to drive GM70 in A2. An obvious candidate is 10Y/801A but I don't know too many more suitable valves. Any suggestions?

I have to admit to having a pair of 833's, a pair of hammond 1642SE's and four 5v 10 amp smps waiting in the wings to keep me quiet when the gm70's are finished. I plan to use the 1.1Kv 250ma PSU's i have bult for the GM70 PP amp. Fabulous James! First GM70 PP and now 833 (SE presumably?). What els...

I'm with Ali - I've worked under 400kV before and it's quite an experience. Everything you touch vibrates, it's quite unsettling at first.

If i could take either of these and add a woofer, FF85KeN + woof would have it all over FE127eN + woof. Without a woofer (and not used near field) the FE127eN would be my choice. Which woofer and cab would you use Dave? I thought there was something very "right" about the 85 in the uFonke...

The higher the damping factor the better, optimising the parameters from a practical perspective?

Thanks Nick, think I understand that. I don't see where the valve's anode resistance comes in though?
