I bought a few bits from Rapid last night . LM338T , some hefty 4700u/25 caps and an encapsulated transformer that I can mount on the outside of the case . Only 30VA , 12+12V - not enough for full power without the regulator dropping out, but I think that'll cover my requirements for the tapped horn...

Ah OK - thanks . Something like a 338T then ? http://www.rapidonline.com/Electronic-Components/Adjustable-Voltage-Regulator-3-Terminal-5A-TO-220-LM338T-47-3322 I assume it just needs Bridge then big ( 10,000u ) cap then regulator ? The case is a heavy aluminium RS box, so plenty of heatsinking there...

Quick advice on PSU for TA2024 T-amp

Hi Chaps My buddy Len gave me a TA2024 amp board ( from EBay ) a while back . I'm intending to use it for TV use or just low-bass duty for the tapped horn for my 4-way speaker . I've located a box that I think is just big enough ( if I strap the transformer to the outside ! ) , so I ought to get a f...

Hi Harry Nice to have you on the thread. Yes, I would definitely recommend bi-amping if you don't mind some building and tinkering. I'm sold on this approach, having experimented quite a lot with the Onken/AH425 two-way a while ago, much earlier in this thread . After trying 1st and 2nd-order passiv...

I'll be (mostly) away from the computer for a few days now.
Have a nice Christmas everyone !
One question for Lynn - what baffle area/dimensions can you make available for the 515 , given you have the low-bass solution somewhere underneath ?

Ooh - it's longer  it's a damn good job I'm keeping the Mk.2 prototypes as I'm not drilling any more holes inside the chassis sides of that 2-channel 'horn amp' again ! No seriously ( folks ) I approve of the new front-end with the four caps - nice :D Four ordinary caps will probably be cheap...

Yowsa ! More info than I can shake a stick at ... in the short term :D Thanks guys . Gary - I'll get my machinist friend to do the drilling on the Azura flanges, thanks for the advice . I'm sold on the 745 Neo/Be's - just a matter of selling some gear and saving some money ! On the Baffle/ OBB issue...

My mother still goes ( she's 76 ) but I can't vouch for the sort of language she uses when she's in the crowd .

One item useful for re-cap to those joining : My low-bass is most likely going to be from the tapped horn, info and SPL graphs here : http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/subwoofers/182885-ideas-35-150-hifi-tapped-horn-2.html At those sort of frequencies, I'm going to try using only one horn and see how i...

Good to see you're preparing for Christmas in the normal way Steve !

May be socket-dependant then ? - I use those teflon sockets with the silver-plated contacts for Loctals. I think I got them from Crowthorne a few years ago. They are OK, grip enough but not too much - their only problem is that sometimes the metal sleeve comes part-way out of the middle of the socke...

That's very disappointing Steve.
I didn't realise there was a 9-pin loctal till you showed those, actually .
All of the 8-pin loctal valves I've used have been fine , which doesn't help you one bit !
