Yep, but before they get to g2, they dont "see" it, what happens between g2 and the anode doesnt count, as they have left the cathode behind. So under normal use the anode voltage has no effect on current in a pentode (hence no miller). Course if g2 is allowed to move, then it acts like a...

http://web.me.com/scress1958/Pictures/c3gglow.jpg Steve Hey... just had a silly thought. That valve lineup looks like R2D2 and his missus out with the kids  I think the important thing to remember is that to the cathode and g1, g2 looks like an anode. In fact it looks like THE anode. Yeah and ...

OK a couple of pictures Inside is much simpler now: http://web.me.com/scress1958/Pictures/2stage13e1.jpg And here it is; poor thing, shorn of its 2nd stage, naked C3gs cowering in the presence of those giant tetrodes. http://web.me.com/scress1958/Pictures/c3gglow.jpg I was up until 3 this morning li...

The way I work, I'll be back about midnight I expect  - onwards! Steve Well I told you it'd be midnight didn't I. Anyway it works. Had to do a fair bit of jiggling with the potential divider to get the right conditions on g2 of the C3g. With pentodes, I've learned through messing about with t...

Cheers chaps, I couldn't really see the point in regulating g2, but thought it better to ask in case I was missing something. Now increasing the cap size from the norm I didn't know about, so thanks for that :) I have the audio circuit stripped out and the iron is poised. The way I work, I'll be bac...

It's not shown its full potential yet, I'm sure of that  Steve Well the addition of the valve regulated PSU gave it a boost in sound quality out of all proportion to what I was expecting. Now we are at a stage of its evolution where as usual, things are gradually becoming more complicated. In...

Martha Tilson is one of my faves.

"Bimbling" and Of "Milkmaids & Architects" are both excellent albums.

Re: Adire HE-10 mk 2

I've dug out these for another trial. To be honest they have never really "done it" for me, but I'm going to stay with them for a longer period this time. Listening to them with some of my favourite discs they sound a bit better than I remember them. Certainly that concentric compression ...

Out of the numerous amps I've built, there are two that have made a particular impression on me. This one: 6AS7 push-pull...gorgeous and I really do wish I still had it. http://web.me.com/scress1958/Pictures/custco1.jpg And of course, this one: My beloved Ally Pally. http://web.me.com/scress1958/Pic...

I wouldn't beat yourself up Greg.

I lost my dad on Nov 9th last year, my wife lost her mum 5 weeks later on Dec 16th, so we've been going through a pretty rough patch in terms of grief.

Two funerals in such a short time span so I know how you feel.

Here's the regulator built into the rear corner of the amp. http://web.me.com/scress1958/Pictures/regulatedht.jpg I had been intending to use the 6Au6s Ali sent me, but I found I had run out of those blasted little 7 pin sockets; only had one and that had to be used for the OB2 gas tube. So....I pre...

Here's the link Al provided for the regulator I used.

I kept my 10H 500mA choke and used a 220uF cap after it.

Sounds good Steve. What about the mid range ? Less coloration, more little details becoming audible, the usual stuff :) Hard to explain, but things seem to be more "separated out" and easier to follow. Voices more "in the room" with a better defined space around them and better ...

After a bit of listening there is one thing that really stands out with the regulator as opposed to the straight supply and that's the bass. It's so much better defined it's laughable. Where I thought a bassist was playing a sustained note during a run, he was actually playing two or three of the sa...
