To be honest, I doubt it's worth a refurb. it would be a shame for it to go to landfill before some salvaging. In my early youth, my very first system consisted of a Pye mono valve amp with volume and tone control salvaged from a radiogram. Although mono it had two speakers which I removed and mount...

In my previous occupation we used to play 'Bollocks Bingo'. We'd take a list of words or phrases at the time favoured by the Home Office and senior Police management, attend a briefing conducted by such like and tick off from the list when the words were used. Improved the enjoyment of formal briefi...

UX4 Valve Sockets

I've had some bad UX4 sockets supplied both with a WAD kit and another buy for my WAD 300B PP clone. The problem is that the spring clips which work on the pin contacts seem to lose their spring, fail to grasp and potentially the clips can drop off the base into the chassis causing loss of contact a...

I have to say I don't understand how Peter C could take so long and still never produce a new amp. Why not take this circuit, recreate the transformers. (A full set of mains, choke and two outputs from Sowter is £650) reproduce the metalwork and a couple of tag boards and market it with the name at...

Hi Nick,

That link won't open for me. I get a 'Forbidden. You do not have permission to access this document'. What do i need to do to get into it? I've been on the main website but can't find it listed in the schematic section. Do I need to be registered on the forum?

Regards,

Greg

Ah, but he owns the company so everyone else at HFW sings to his tune. Furthermore, he is highly regarded within the industry so has a solid foundation. The only thing that will rock him is if sales of the mag drop significantly. I've moved from hard copy to 'on line' but don't like it from a 'user ...

Hi Phil,

Hmmm again. It was a long time ago. I wasn't into MOT's at the time, albeit I had a very tame tester

Hmmm, I have no experience of mercury tilt switches in hi-fi, but when I was into restoring classic motorcycles, I did use one to replace the ever dodgy contact switch for the brake light. Worked a treat.....as soon as the brakes were applied, the inertia made the switch contact and light come on. :D
