Re: Ah ! Njoe Tjoeb fault
Mark, I have replaced the laser module twice on my own machine with no great problems. Those plastic mouldings you refer are the transport suspension isolators. There should be 4 of them and they should slide off sideways. or compress (very carefully) the head of the isolator so you can pull the pla...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Aye, speakers with a MTM, or D’Appolito, configuration are definitely not for near field listening. For listening to music (rather than films) a vertical configuration to my mind is better then the more usual horizontal format that is mainly used as a centre speaker in a surround sound system.

Re: My Swansong speaker build
These are looking really good Colin & Scott. I’d love to hear how they turn out. I have a question - when I played with MTMs, I think I made the mistake of sometimes sitting too close to them while I was developing and auditioning cross-overs etc. When I finally started living with them, a lot ...

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options
Aye Mark, XO design is definitely a black art and can either make or break a speaker. That's why I leave it to someone more knowledgeable on the subject then me. I applaud your efforts.

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options
However I will say there's no loss of HF transparency, from the extra component or two in series with the driver. That sweeping statement is likely to fly in the face of your single driver no XO purists. However is good news Mark, bearing in mind the intended use of the speakers and is something I ...

Re: Purifi-based monitor - options
Mark, Unless I have missed something, I'm a little confused here why you are building and testing a notch filter for the Purifi driver centred on 3.5kHz as you say to attack the 3.5kHz peak of the Purifi output when, as I understood things last we spoke, you were crossing over to the Beryllium dome ...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Once there veneered , personally rebating won’t make an aesethic difference . I still worry about the integration of so many mid range drivers and subsequent crossover I'm leaning to agree with your after veneer comment. However, personally I have no worries at all regards integration. The concept ...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Phil, It's a lot of work to rebate these drivers and has to be done very precisely, no margin for error. The driver has to fit snug into the rebate. And if there is no sonic benefit to rebating them flush (hence the question to the more knowledgeable) then I'll likely not bother.

Re: My Swansong speaker build
You're probably right Ray, but it'll be a lot easier if they are suface mounted since i won't have to make a routing template to cut the rebate. I already have a template for the Beryllium dome tweeter so this is not an issue and needs to be rebated flush being surrounded by the midrange array drive...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Coming along fast ! Mark, I find with me that if I let a project drag on I tend to lose the enthusiasm and then struggle to return to it making every excuse I can think of to not complete the build. So I have to strike whilst the iron is hot, so to speak and I am still quite enthused to hear what t...

Re: My Swansong speaker build
Glad you appreciate a master at work, hey   Speakers go together so much easier when you have all the panels CNC cut for you. Been busy since last I posted. I now have one speaker cabinet finished and ready for veneering. The other cabinet is on the gluing up table. http://www.audio-talk....

Swansong speaker - the actual build begins
I have been busy since picking up the cut panels and machined all the internal braces and openings in the rear baffle for the Hypex amp unit and the binding post mounting plate. Today I machined all the slots for the #20 biscuit joints and have assembled and glued up one speaker. The other speaker w...
