oh ...should add , I think it was a shunt reg of some type - low noise etc

I would be interested in a good PSU design that will offer 90ma or so per side ( C3g, OA2 and PT15 ) that I will need for the final C3g/PT15 at circa 450v B+ or higher.

cheers

Hi Philip have various TXs but highest at about 375-0-375 , but not quite enough current capacity for the PT15s. willing to buy new Hammond or similar higher voltage TX to get up and running. I saw a lot of posts about the "non-BG" power supply a few years ago on WAD but missed the critica...

all - a very illuminating few posts - thank you - I begin to understand - the voltage needs to swing ! Pentode curves look pretty much horizontal - so does a CCS load line ( by definition ! ) so why bother on a pentode....... I'm learning ....... Andrew I -your point is well made regarding use of CC...

Over-excited about the prospect of Santa arriving , I couldn't sleep last night - so I got to thinking about trying both CCS in plate load of the C3g, and CCS in the cathode circuit of the PT15 ? I wondered if a CCS loaded C3g would be a nice sounding thing. madness ? Also, searching on t'net to lea...

cheers, the lm317hv looks good to nearly 60v so should be ok for trying various bias points in the right sort of range. time to experiment.. Andrew - your right about the attractions of the light bulb - I guess it also gets heat out of the chassis - I also remember James saying that one of the benef...

Hi , I found this while searching for SE CCS ideas ( not much at all on t'net - which makes me think its not a very popular idea ? ) this is what i was thinking - a cathode CCS - but set for approx 65ma with the 100uF bypass cap that was specified on James D's original PT15 cct. obviously this one i...

thanks Andrew

given the current stability should I expect sonic improvement do you think ?

Looks great Philip - a bit tidier than my breadboard.... I have to say - If I used my PT15 amp late at night the neighbours would complain - its in the garage but V LOUD. ( I'm using a Rozenblit preamp circuit with it at mo ) Did you ever get a higher HV power supply sorted out for the PT15 ?- I nev...

Thanks Nick, I need to find a schematic to understand better how thats set up. I think i only have IRF520s from making distortion diodes in stompboxes at moment. on CCS's in general - so far have only found ideas using voltage regs like LM317 etc and sense resistors. And not much on using them in SE...

C3g/PT15 - CCS ??

Hi all first post here and .... first of many naive questions no doubt. I've been really enjoying my C3g/PT15SE for about 3 years after breadboarding up from James D's design from WAD forum...... I got lots of help and advice then, and now I'm back for more hopefully... I'd like to try messing with ...

Big Hello to all, and Big Apology to Nick !

Hello All, looking at all the great stuff on Nick's forum I was compelled to Register - but first I have to extend a public apology to Nick.... Nick very kindly loaned me 2 10K OTs almost 3 years ago, which have been very carefully looked after since my AJF TXs arrived 4 months later - but not yet r...
