Grid chokes.

I keep hearing about "grid chokes" so need to find out some info.

What value of H does a grid choke need to be ?

Does the DCR have any direct effect on its operation ? (ie does it need a resistor in series between choke and 0V)

Agreed, but 6DN7 with the anode choke was nearer to 300b in sound.

Perhaps if I listened to more "raucous" music the CCS 6DN7 would be in it's element.

I'm not really sure, but having gone back to the "new" 300b amp I think the CCS 6DN7 might be just a bit too much "up front" for my liking.

The 300b just sounds more "balanced".

Will listen to 300b for a while and then return to 6DN7.

No, it's not a scam.
So, have you joined us just to sell a few valves / tubes ?

Proper music ?  After an extended listening session I have to say, this amp (or these amps  ) have got serious "grunt". :) They have lost none of the mid/upper fluency they had before but have gained in grunt and also clarity. I know I've said it before but I'm hearing nu...

In the end I made R6 7.5K (cos I had one  ) and kept the decoupling cap C3. The conversion from choke loaded anode to CCS loaded anode has been done, and has given the sound a bit more "body", if you can understand what I mean. This amp is a "giant killer" compared to...
