The guys who are finding thei registy clutered (computer not what it once was) are you mostly on xp? I didn't find 7 got cluttered. Maybe depends on usage, having barred children my usage doesn't cause any problems. But anyone with XP has to get down and dirty with the registry on a regular basis. A...

Ah right that might be interesting. Mind you it's sharp cut-off pentode so might get lop-sided waveforms (?) Not actually used one meself.... Yes I have been doing mental gymnastics trying to predict keeping it out of cut off. Just depends on the input signal amplitude. Really I need more HT to sat...

Wish I'd read that a few years ago. Wrecked an operating system deleting stuff I didn't understand.

We'll see. Sounds like it may just pay to adapt an ef86 socket. The following clip inforrms me just how much the amp is part of the instrument. Chuck Berry is geting cross because someone touched his amp. HE also gives Keith Richards a lesson in tone, but Keith on his strat and whatever amp just can...

I am going to try a 6sj7 I found that I have just one. Otherwise I could make up an adapter to fit ef86 into octal relay base.

Yes I saw what Broskie adapted it to. In your case because of the cascode this makes a lot of sense. The only refinement which sticks out like a saw thumb, is to replace the pair of 150k resistors with a pot which you adjust for best outcome. OK you could then put fixed resistors in. This would allo...

Aye, use it periodically but it doesn't make much difference. The laptop's 2.5 years old now and sadly I think it's just Win 7 bloating :-(. I didn't find Win 7 bloated. But when I did this clean windows 8 install it speeded up the machine very noticeably. the question remains whether that was beca...

Yes I think a ferrite bead and a grid stopper would be necessary. Normally I am sure you know I wouldn't put a pentode up front. But when the amp is an instrument and venerable companies like Vox have achieved a great sound things just have to be tried. But I am considering going octal for ease. I c...

Looking at output pentodes for single ended.

Image

Thinking el84 a little under powered. But I found 6550 overpowered for my situation.

In the photo the EL37 of which I have some looks interesting.

The output stage should have power of 5.7 watts THD 10%. Interesting, enough gain in the ef86 to overdrive the output stage and enough distortion in the output stage to make it an instrument.

I would just try one more thing if possible. bypass the output cathode with 200uF (-3db 5hz given 1/r = 1/rz +1/rk where rz = (ra + rp) / (mu + 1) then C in Farrads = 2pi.f.r.) 2hz would be better design goal but I have kept it to sizes which would match your 30uF cap and commonly used caps. For 2hz...

Thinking outside the box. Look at this schematic please? http://www.ampage.org/schematics/voxAC4.gif of th I am thinking the nasty distortion spectrum of the first pentode partially cancelled by the inverted distortion spectrum of the output pentode which has no feedback. So it may sound surprisingl...

Thank you. It's a little alien to start with. Now we know where the Nokia staff who wrote the worst ever mobile phone operating system have turned up! In trying to make it like a tablet / phone type interface they have messed up. For a tabl;et / mobile APP style interface Android walks all over it. ...
