Oh I didn't know he bought a guitar like that. even when he plays it in notes rather than the fretless character the sound played as notes is still unique, since presumably the string being held only by the finger hasn't got the hard accuracy of the fret. though Jaco achieves accuracy without hardne...

I bought the 301 at a radio Rally in 1999 for £60 and the Slate plinth was £400. the 301 I had left on the shelf for years as I was unaware how wonderful it was. It was a real shock when I finally got round to trying it. Before that I had belkieved all the garbage on the web about the lencos. I am a...

Can you expound please Chris? I don't know the facts surrounding your inuendos. But to the layman like me it reads.

Jack's bass guitar was dropped by the airline which gave him the idea to remove the frets. His actions gave Fender the idea of making the bolt on neck.

Is that it?

Cummon Neal, that's a bit strong mate. We're all buddies on here. :) Hey Phil - are you suggesting Paul isn't quite annoying at times ? He's annoyed some of the greatest people in the audio game, in his time . You should have more respect for that talent . I know but in this instance I was not inte...

One more reason to rejoice in a great big oversized synchronous motor and oversized bearing a rubber wheel and induction break. Why do you keep crapping on this thread? Wasn't intended maliciously, was awstruck by the complexity of the beast and just making light hearted comments in response. I am ...

I would just add that if I were using this to drive a power valve I would intercept it with my new favourite that I can't imagine not using the 6em7 power section as a cathode follower, most likely direct coupled to the output valve.

It is now a standard in everything I do.

If steve's problem is gain then I would consider using the 5687 instead of the E88CC and also reduce the value of the load resistor to suit the gain required. this would also give the more pentode like sound. The main reason for the circuit is that it supposed to be less noisy than a true pentode. M...

I am not sure about Steve's feedback way or what effect it has on the operation of the cascode. But the operation of a cascode is that the bottom triode is a voltage to current converter so the gm of the valve determines the current flow. It sets the current which the upper triode operates at. the g...

Right so can I please just check a couple of things before I start applying voltage. The light bulb is best placed between the rectifier and the 75R resistor? No between the ac mains and the amplifier, that is to say on the phase only or on the neutral only not across both. It is meant to be in ser...

350v HT should be plenty, share half of that across the pentode and half across the Pentodes anode resistor. Gives you sufficient peak to peak in both to swing the 300b grid.

In Thorsten's article he shows this schematic and Says Verdier's version uses the EL84 http://www.fortunecity.com/rivendell/xentar/1179/theory/seamptheory/300B.gif Thorsten said "A variation of this circuitry uses a EL84/6BQ5 Pentode with about one eight's of the anode load (about 12kOhm instea...

came from the J.C. Verdier circuit using EL84 that was in 'Sound Practices' years ago. I will see if I can dig out that article for you Richard in case it may be worth trying as is, or at least seeing how it has been adapted and whether all alterations are "best". Edit There isn't one. Th...

My mistake, I assumed you checked the voltages were equal.
