Re: SLOB project
I don’t want to use this thread for a topic that is not directly related to the SLOB. Just a quick last note because the results are simply so good. It worked amazingly well to use “sound matching” for EQing the bass/lower mids. Of course I didn’t expect to get miraculously OB bass out of horns but ...

Re: SLOB project
With the OB bass sound of this video in my head I got so many ideas around this topic that I simply need to do some experiments. Reading thought the diyaudio thread about the SLOB was rather confusing and somehow showed that slot-loaded bass doesn't add so much benefits regarding SPL as one might ex...

Re: SLOB project
I was wondering if some OB experts could shed more light on what the guy says in the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9LMe-ypUVu In my understanding the bass is the main benefit from OBs but then again it would need to come from bass drivers ("open source" OB?)that don't operate kind...

Re: Nothing In Particular
And my point is? Wish I knew. I think this is a healthy reaction against constant over stimulation! I use music streaming services only for finding new music and for this it is of great help. The best way for me to really relax, however, is to listen to vinyl, no jumping around from title to title....

Re: Lii Audio Speakers
Ask and thou shalt receive... I now have a set of CAD drawings for the pear-shaped Lii Audio speakers. They need some work before they could be used for any CNC routing work (they're an old version of dwg file and they don't seem to have used polylines) but I do have the relevant shapes and dimensi...

Re: Lii Audio Speakers
Thanks Ray for clarification. I think I need to try this. Will first run some tests with bending/glueing flexi-ply/flexible-mdf in order to find out how easy (or not) it is.

Re: Lii Audio Speakers
I found a report - unfortunately only in German - about building suchlike speaker housings. It looks doable. The pictures speak for themselves. https://www.audionist.de/2019/05/01/das-saba-cello-ein-baubericht/ Bottom and top are 15mm birch plywood, sides are made from 3mm poplar plywood. The parts ...

Re: Lii Audio Speakers
I considered the Hypercubes a "sealed" box and the Lii speakers "vented", referring to this as "two principles", but I cannot understand from the drawing how the Lii speaker would work exactly. official1.jpg It doesn't look like a typical bass reflex design. Re adding a...

Re: 300B Headphone Amp
I am looking for a 300b preamp or headphone amp schematic, can somebody HELP ! :bounce: Top If you are looking for typical 300B sound (lush colorful warm mids) the TS Masterpiece will disappoint you. But the sound is very clean, low distortion, and the circuit is simple. I would also look in J.Bros...

Re: Lii Audio Speakers
I was playing with the idea to build "Hypercubes" but wasn't sure how I would be able to cut those angles precisely enough so that gluing the pieces together wouldn't end up with a complete mess. Building BLH looks like a walk at the beach compared to building the Hypercubes. But post #23 ...

Re: SLOB project
bandwidth limit the OTL amp via it's output cap so that the Fast-10S can run full range without any crossover? Then just integrate the bass unit to suit the roll-off of the Fast-10S - that sounds like it might just need a passive lo-pass filter, especially as I have the option of 'room correction' ...

Re: SLOB project
I think this is closely related to Ray’s SLOB project. Following this thread raised the question about the best x-over again. Some years ago I tried an OB with the PM6A in combination with my La Scala bass horns but always felt that the speed was lacking behind the bass. So I tried a midBLH with the...

Re: Mains filter - made things worse?
So, I wonder what else they've done to justify the price? They use hospital grade outlets with isolated ground, separate zones, star wiring "that provides similar benefits to having individual dedicated lines feeding each piece in your high-end audio system." Don't know how good their &qu...

Re: Mains filter - made things worse?
Just as a thought experiment, why would a mains input filter adversely alter the reproduced sound of an amplifier? From the PS audio website: "Traditional power conditioners can only affect a portion of incoming noise and are unable to compensate for over or under voltage. Furthermore, power c...
