Re: On My Bench.

Ah I remember poking about in old boards like that, trying to figure out what does what. A fellow sixth former who knew more about it than me, I used to drive him nuts asking what does this do? How does this work? And what does this do? And how does this work?

Re: General health matters.

Went to give a blood sample for PSA test at midday. If there's a problem, they''ll let me know. If not, they won't! Well that's what she said.

Re: On My Bench.

Google 'tantalum capacitor vs electrolytic'

Quite interesting. Apparently tants can be more prone to failure. ESR and leakage can be good, but may be non-linear over a frequency range.

Only times I've seen tant's used is for small size. They're not good for audio anyway. So yeah do it.

Re: Fg810 - A Working Title

Oven is beeping, gotta go. I'm having a go at making Polish potato pierogies. http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/imagex/misc/th_throughdoor.gif Report necessary on the outcome please. Shouldn't have used puff pastry - otherwise, not unpleasant! Needs more cheese and seasoning tho. The instructio...

Re: Fg810 - A Working Title

 So it's been used continuously for the last 2 days (my stereo is usually on all day every day, unless I'm out, or asleep :D - it's also used for the soundtrack for YouTube and DVD's) Playing the same stuff in a random loop, so is well known by now - I'm hearing things I never heard before. Thi...

Screenshot 2024-02-14 192036.png What's this analysis you did Mike? (The sine wave jobbie.) Where you've got your '.ac oct ...' etc. Right mouse click on it, change it to '.tran 1' (transient, 1 second - or 5 seconds, or even a fraction of a second) From the help file - Perform a transient analysis...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

I took the liberty of having a play with it - didn't take long - so this is my tidied up version - yes it has a Voltage of X4 (12 dB).

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

Second problem, you've got '-12V' for V3 (and you don't need the 'V'), but you're already using its negative terminal for the supply rail, so you've inverted it and made it +12V. As it is, just needs '12'. V2: again don't need '+12V', just '12'. The text box value is a Voltage by default, so don't n...

Re: C3g Aikido Phono

Whoah I've just noticed something, R2 is 1 milliohms!

That's a virtual short circuit.

I presume you meant 1 Megohms, so you have to write '1meg' or '1Meg' (can't be an 'M' on its own, and no spaces).

Re: Fg810 - A Working Title

Yeah it's alright! Sounds very smooth. Bass is all there and not flabby. Treble is clean with good detail, and not 'in yer face' with it (what Phil calls 'transistor ear'). Trivia - Supply Voltage is bang on 45V. Amps' output DC points bang on 21.5V. According to the Fluke, there's 3.5 mV of hum, or...
